I am a Licensed Counseling Psychologist in New York and Rhode Island. Born in San José, Costa Rica and raised in the New York City Tri-State Area, I identify as a bilingual (English & Spanish) and bicultural therapist. I provide individual therapy to teens and adults. I have focused my clinical work on providing care to disenfranchised, marginalized, and underserved groups. I believe therapy should be a place where you truly feel safe and comfortable enough to discuss everything going on in your life. I see the therapist-client relationship as unique, and a collaborative alliance.
Working from a biopsychosocial model, my approach involves flexibility, meeting clients where they are at, and taking a whole person perspective in order to provide the best treatment possible. Ultimately, my goals as a therapist are to provide guidance, support, evidence based techniques, while still challenging clients to work toward their personal goals.
I enjoy working with clients to process and explore their emotions while also teaching them specific skills to utilize on a day to day basis. I work from an overarching multicultural lens and draw from my training in mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to integrate these techniques into therapy.
