Individuals thrive toward their potential when their relationships are healthy and supportive. Being in healthy relationship is how we, as individuals and families, are sustained in the long term. Relationships that are healthy are consistent, have structure, are interdependent, and provide instruction that fosters individual and collective resiliency and progress.
When relationships are in crisis, individuals must be guided toward identifying the behaviors and attitudes that bring on conflict. When this awareness is achieved, change is possible. Here, attention to individual and relationship needs is equally important in the therapeutic process.
I have worked extensively with behaviorally and emotionally challenged youth and families in crisis. I have been a contract provider for youth in county custody and those enrolled in schools catering to children and youth for the emotionally and behaviorally challenged. I also provide marital/couples counseling.
In instances of emotional control I also incorporate mindfulness practices and introduce yoga as a means of self-regulation and the minimization of stress on individual behavior.
