I graduated from SUNY University at Buffalo School of Social Work and since then, I have worked with clients with various mental health afflictions in long-term and short-term therapy. I have experience working with clients in group & individual settings. I use Existential & Jungian perspectives to serve my clients. In trauma work, I use the Moral Injury Model, Schema Therapy approach as well as Post-Traumatic Growth Model. I see humor, laughter, poetry…and silence as quite effective therapeutic modalities, too!
Now, it is my observation as your fellow human & a clinician, that there seems to be a wide-spread belief that changing our external conditions only, will result in living-happily-ever-after. Yet often, even when our external circumstances change for the better, the inside remains dissatisfied. We return to our habit of expecting life to accommodate us.
In therapy, I focus on facilitating taking an active way of engaging with one’s circumstances no matter what they might be rather than spectating life as it happens and seeking the meaning of it outside of ourselves. The future will not ‘bend’ to our liking by itself. The inside handles the outside. Thanks for stopping by! JD
