Psychotherapy is a conversation that aims at a certain kind of change, and my primary aim as a psychotherapist is to support you in seeking the kind of change that you want to make. Sometimes this involves working to address your mental health concern, such as anxiety or addiction. Just as often, it involves thinking through your values and how you can best pursue them. Many times, it involves both.
I bring a philosophical approach to psychotherapy and find that this resonates with many of my clients. If you think this may apply to you, please reach out for a consultation.
I have trained as a psychotherapist at several leading clinics, with a specialty in psychosis. I have expertise in widely-used and effective treatment modalities, including ACT. I am the author of books on free will, addiction, and mental health, I teach and write regularly on current questions in philosophy and psychology.
I offer free initial consultations in my office near Harvard Square, and also via telehealth. Groups
Philosophical Psychotherapy Group
This is a new group for people wanting to explore philosophical ideas within a psychotherapeutic groups. While we will discuss core ideas in philosophy (free will, meaningfulness, consciousness), this is not an academic seminar – it is a therapeutic group, facilitated by a licensed social worker, whose ultimate focus is the psychological well-being and emotional growth of its members. This is an ongoing open group open to adults (18+) who are based in Massachusetts and who are seeking a distinctive kind of intellectual and therapeutic community.
