My name is John, I have been practicing counseling since 2001, have a Bachelor's degree in Human Development, a Master's degree in Mental Health, and am a certified CASAC (substance abuse counselor) in NY. I specialize in bereavement, trauma, anxiety/depression, and addiction counseling. I also work with couples to resolve conflict. I utilize a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy/Patient-Centered approach. This means I listen to you to help you challenge irrational beliefs so you can develop the tools to become your own healer. I understand that change is a process that does not magically occur overnight.
As a therapist who has struggled with grief, loss, trauma, and bereavement I understand, firsthand, the process of healing. And, as a person who has worked through the process of recovering from addiction, I know that there is not only hope but strength to be found in learning and growing.
I utilize a person-centered approach and we will work together to create goals that you would like to focus on during treatment. The first session is very relaxed and exploratory where you get to know me and ask any questions that you may have, and where I get to know you and get a feel for what you would like to accomplish in therapy.
