With 14 years in the mental health field, John utilizes an eclectic approach to the therapeutic process. Mr. Asuncion has served as a therapist, adjunct instructor, and administrator across five institutions of higher education, has directed short- and long-term inpatient treatment programs for people in recovery from substance use and chemical dependency, and has led programs addressing the presenting concerns of juvenile male sex offenders, severe conduct disorder youth, community members impacted by HIV/AIDS, and trauma survivors.
Utilizing a multicultural and social justice perspective, his work is primarily informed by Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Internal Family Systems, with accelerated training in traumatology, Social Responsibility Therapy, and Aggression Replacement Training.
