My name is Joel Gamache. I am an LMFT in California, working with teens, adults, and couples in a psychodynamic approach. I specialize in traumatic stress, resolving childhood experiences, panic/anxiety attacks, thoughts of death, marital conflict, and relational communication. I use a combination of body-based therapies, self-compassion, attachment theory, object relations theory. I typically ask about what is currently happening in people's lives and use that to explore unresolved experiences in the past.
When the war in Iraq started, I thought the way I can serve my country is to work with people who come back with PTSD. It was a long journey, but wonderful, and I learned I love more than working with just this group of people. I especially love working with couples too!
I want clients to take control of their goals for therapy and we talk about how they will know therapy did what they needed it to do for them. The first session is easy. I try not to dig into the difficult things too much. I want to begin to build trust and get to know each other.
