Therapy is about the relationship between client and therapist. The process of therapy is a combination of science and art all within the context of a comfortable and safe relationship.Therapy is about exploring what brought you through the door. I have a great appreciation and respect for the courage it takes to pick up the phone and reach out for help. It is a process, a journey that may take us back to explore how you got here, but not necessarily, or we may focus solely on the present and future and what you need to leave with.
I use creative techniques such as writing, or drawing to help you explore new ways of looking at your experiences. Written materials help educate,( about anxiety for example) and include specific coping strategies. With substance abuse for yourself or someone else; I use education, motivational counseling and community programs.
If you are a young person; therapy is a place to throw around ideas no matter how far out they may sound or feel without risk of judgement. It's a place to ask the questions you can't ask a friends or family, but badly want to talk about.
