Greetings. My name is Joan Colbert. I'm a Licensed Mental Health Clinician. I utilize Mindfulness-based Cognitive therapy, Trauma-Informed Care, and Solution-Focused therapy. My theoretical approach is psychodynamic, relational, and attachment focused. I provide client-centered psychotherapy to individuals and groups. My therapeutic goal is to build collaboration support and therapeutic allegiance with clients by using positive regard and empathetic listening to engage, encourage, and provide clients with a safe, nonjudgmental space to process their thoughts and feelings.
My journey towards becoming a psychotherapist begins with wanting to understand the root cause of emotional impairments, learning the modalities to help people along their journey of change and growth, and promoting inner validation in individuals.
During the first session, I build rapport by using reflective listening to collaborate on developing treatment and wellness plans, have the client complete a self-care assessment to review various domains in their life and provide the client with a journal to list therapy goals to work on.
