One size never fits all. Each person and issue needs its own caring approach. Therapy includes: DBT, cognitive-behavioral, family systems, internal family systems, and trauma work, all with acceptance, warmth, and healing. Gains rely on maximum challenge with maximum support. I have successfully struggled in my life as a son, husband, and father of four. I know the pain of being wounded and the rewards of healing. For over 50 years I have helped kids and families as a teacher, school counselor, therapist, and supervising professor in three graduate counseling programs, including the Captains' Masters at the USMA at West Point.

Rather than being labeled as "sick," I have learned people hunger to be respected for their resources and survival skills and helped to build on them. What all folks really want is to be able to tell their stories and, maybe for the first time, to have those stories really accepted and respected. This is the foundation of all the work I do.

Caution: Be wary what you read on "rating" websites. Some colleagues and I are often unfairly burned. For example, as a Forensic Counselor, when I am called on by DCF or the Courts to testify in cases of abuse, neglect, alienation, or custody, angry people, sometimes emotionally disturbed parents on losing sides, will retaliate with untruthful postings.
