I specialize in couples therapy and grief work (death/loss/trauma, end of life, and major life transitions). Additionally, as a bilingual therapist (Mandarin/English), I work with Chinese/Asian/multi-race families to address multigenerational issues, parenting challenges and cultural conflicts. In addition to my training and experiences in psychotherapy, my work is informed by my prior career in the intensely demanding law/finance/startups sectors which has helped me appreciate the enormous stress and complexity in the work/life dynamics facing many of my clients, sometimes seemingly as a result of their very own success.
Couples therapy must attend to not one, but two individuals AND their conflicted relationship, presenting challenges unfamiliar to therapists not trained in this modality. I'm trained with the Gottman Method (level 2) and with the very dynamic Developmental Model (Couples Institute, Menlo Park, CA) and also incorporate EFT and other approaches in my work.
My work with grief/loss/life transition started at Kara (Palo Alto) where I worked with a wide range of losses as a grief therapist and facilitated spouse-loss and suicide survivors groups. I help clients safely experience different grief emotions, identify distress patterns, challenge assumptions, develop coping skills and recreate meaning and connections.
