You’re in enough distress that you're looking for a therapist. Maybe you have a history of trauma and/or addiction and it's too much to handle alone. Perhaps there's illness, grief or loss. You need help to learn to deal skillfully with thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, triggers and flashbacks, Shadow material, and self-sabotage. You can live a free, clear life. There is a way to begin dissolving the hold, not just of psychological problems but, to begin to dissolve the ego itself that creates those problems by investigating the nature of Reality. This is deep psychological healing that can lead as far as spiritual awakening.

Are you struggling with imposter syndrome? Even though people compliment your work, personality, achievements or looks, do you have trouble fully believing them? It can be hard to love yourself completely if you were raised in a household that criticized you or withheld affection unless you performed. Whether you’re mourning the loss of a loved one who’s passed, or simply grieving the family you never had but wish you did—big emotions can be hard to navigate. You might be so sad sometimes, it feels like your grief will never end. Or you might be so anxious, it’s difficult for you to advocate for yourself and make sound decisions.

I specialize in working with adolescents and adults who are struggling with all forms of eating disorders and disordered eating. Clients who come to see me may have just been diagnosed with an eating disorder or have been struggling for years. Some clients aren't sure if they have an eating disorder, but know they are struggling with food and their body. Clients often reach out to me because they know that I practice from a Health at Every Size(R) framework and they want treatment that is not stigmatizing about weight. Adolescent clients and their families often seek me out because of my expertise doing Family Based Treatment.

I'm a Jewish, LGBTQ+, kink-affirming artist who is proudly in recovery.
Why were we taught algebra, but never taught about healthy relationships, delightful sex, grief, depression, or loving our bodies? Why do we fall into the same traps we fell into yesterday? I’ll give you tools & hold you accountable. My specialties are relationships, anxiety, grief, men's issues, queer issues, compulsive masturbation, porn literacy, low desire, ED & teens.

While I have experience with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds, I am especially experienced in working with Jewish communities, including with people who practice differently than their families.
People often struggle with negative, self-defeating thoughts - often ones that they know are not completely true, yet nevertheless feel true. Many of my clients come to me because they want to make changes in their life - at work, school, or with family - but they feel trapped because of these negative thoughts. These thoughts can lead to excessive guilt, hopelessness, and indecision. As a therapist trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, I am committed to working together with you in helping you get unstuck.

My approach blends both cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic theories with teachings from philosophy, mythology, and Jewish mysticism.
If you're looking for fluff free, no nonsense counseling, reach out to me. It's all too easy to lose touch with the things we stand for, as well as with the things that mean most to us. You were whole at one point, which means a path to sanity exists that is waiting to be rediscovered. Yet these behaviors holding you back have been heavily reinforced over time. The change ahead is not going to be easy or comfortable, but you don't have to face it alone. Past clients have told me that my ability to break down situations and clearly explain relational dynamics helped them to gain new insight into their histories and functioning.

Accepting new clients! My clients often struggle with symptoms such as recurring negative patterns in their life, anxiety, depression, anger, overwhelm, relationship issues, problematic family dynamics, trouble getting new habits to stick, compulsively using external things to feel better (i.e. work, people, alcohol), pain, headaches, and more. Through a mixture of talk therapy and body centered approaches, we will explore sources of trauma and healing with curiosity.

As a beginning therapist, my goal is not only to learn to help others in every way that I can, but to be a sounding board for those who struggle with their identity, who have been silenced in their lives, and have been looking for a caring person to turn to. In the journey of 1000 miles, the first 500 are often taking the step to seek the help that one needs, and I have experience in helping people who are having difficulties in life with grief, depression, anxiety, trauma, family medical diagnoses, and other challenging areas.

Jewish Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same background to be able to work together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of cultural forces, such as discrimination, that may contribute to that client’s concerns. With a professional who has such training, a client should feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues without feeling that they need to self-censor.

How can I recognize an effective Jewish therapist?

As with members of any religious or ethnic group, just because two people happen to be Jewish does not guarantee that they will share the same values, knowledge, or experiences. A Jewish client seeking a therapist who shares their cultural identity, or for whom it’s important that a therapist share their religious beliefs, may want to discuss a professional’s Jewish background with them before beginning therapy. For someone who seeks justification for major life changes in their religious tradition, or in biblical writings, finding a therapist who is comfortable framing guidance in that context may be especially valuable.

Would a Jewish therapist have unique training?

No, but they should have the same training and certification as any other mental health professional, as well as experience with a range of evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or mindfulness-based therapy. A therapist with this type of experience should be able to help any client feel comfortable and safe, which is essential for a therapeutic alliance. Once this is established, a potential client may want to find out more about the therapist’s Jewish background.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with Jewish clients?

A client can directly ask a therapist if they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and if so, whether these individuals sought counseling for faith-related issues or marital or familial issues in which their Jewish background was a factor. A client may also wish to ask a potential therapist whether they incorporate Jewish teachings and values into their own professional work.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Jewish therapists?

The directory of Jewish therapists includes professionals who have opted to share their cultural background on their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their background, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and/or communities.
