I have worked with individual's whose lives have been complicated by anxiety and/or depression. Clients' lives may be constricted by self-defeating behaviors, or they may feel stuck in unsatisfying relationship patterns. This sense of not feeling satisfied often contributes to unhappiness and an eroded sense of self.
Early life experiences may shed light on these issues which often helps to explain why someone feels stuck. In order to effect change, therapeutic work can help a client counteract the feelings of powerlessness that often inhibit personal growth.
Entering therapy is a difficult decision. Research demonstrates that this is particularly true for couples, who wait on average six years after problems arise to seek help. I utilize EFT couples therapy when appropriate. This paradigm helps to identify and break the destructive cycles that lead to a sense of alienation between partners.
I utilize multiple treament models in my work including EMDR (see emdr.com) and BSP (brainspotting) when appropriate.
Ultimately, the goals of therapy are set by the client. It is the therapist's job to assist the client in breaking through the barriers to attaining their true potential.
