My experience is that people learn, grow, and change in the context of an accepting and caring relationship. The client-counselor relationship provides that opportunity. For more than 10 years I have enjoyed working with young people and their families to understand and work on their personal, relationship, and parenting goals. I try to bring a fresh perspective and a non-judgemental attitude to each session. My clients can expect empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuiness from me. They can also expect the knowledge and wisdom of a seasoned therapist.
No one type of therapy (or therapist) is for everyone! That's why I offer a variety of approaches including talk therapy, creative/expressive therapies, EMDR (for trauma), and trauma-sensitive Yoga/Mindfulness techniques. I work with my clients to determine what works best for them.
Just as adults experience relief with talking about their troubling thoughts and feelings, children and adolescents benefit when they can express their inner life through play therapy and creative/expressive therapy.
