An ideal client is looking for a therapist who will provide direction. If you'd like a clinician with a poker face who sits and says "mmhmm", I am not your gal. My sessions are very interactive, and I tend to attract clients who are looking for honest but loving and tender support (and an acceptance of my complete potty mouth). I see folx as they go through life transitions like fertility, loss, coming out, or other changes, who are working to find their "new normal" after major life events. I am especially passionate about working with young adults around gender and sexuality, hopefully providing affirming care.
I have a wide breadth of experience from 20 years as a social worker, from hospitals to youth homes to postpartum support to hospice to homeless teens, in both the USA and in South Africa. I hope my global perspective allows me to be a strong therapist and advocate. I am proud to self-disclose that I am gay and Jewish. I am also a mother myself.
My approach is strength-based, and a very cognitive behavioral style, helping clients connect with their own inner resources to make lasting change. In addition, I like to use a narrative therapy framework that can be key to understanding and processing traumatic events. Finally, I love to laugh with clients; humor can be a much needed point of relief!

The biggest influence in my work is CBT, which I use to help clients examine their thought process. An obstacle many people face is figuring out how to "turn off" intrusive/negative thoughts about themselves that lead to shameful feelings. Addressing this is a priority for me as a clinician.
