I use equine-assisted therapy model Eagala. The client chooses the pace and what to work on. Clients who have experienced trauma, anxieties, and other emotional related problems can find that the horses can relate because they are hyper vigilant and reflect back what they sense. As the counselor I allow for the process to work through at its own pace and support the strengths of the client as they emerge. I have several locations in Western WA, in order to ease access. At present I have Enumclaw, Maple Valley, Ravensdale, South Prairie, Monroe, Auburn, Rainier, and Olympia. I have a sliding scale not based just on income.
In equine-assisted therapy we will be outdoors or in covered arenas. We are often surrounded buy fields, mountains, and other wildlife. Sometimes other animals like goats enter the field and become part of the story. Metaphors are important and neutral language to promote them. Use of animals outdoors can help with a more relaxed experience.
Trauma and related problems cause huge disturbances in our lives. It is hard to trust others. Horses are trustworthy because they are not judging. Horses accept humans into their herd and begin treating you as part of the herd immediately. This gives you to gain both a sense of acceptance and control. Horses approach and interact in tune with your readiness
