Not accepting new clients as I transition into maternity leave through January 2025. Shutting off the "inner critic" can often feel impossible. As such, most of the adults I treat struggle with negative beliefs about themselves in addition to anxiety/depression, body dysmorphia/low self-esteem, heartbreak/relationship problems or early attachment wounds/relational trauma. Supporting college students and young professionals who are navigating adulthood and the myriad of personal and professional challenges that can arise during this time is a passion of mine. I also enjoy supporting perfectionists and high-achieving individuals.

If you are looking for someone with experience to listen to your situation, help you identify things that need to change, and to help you make those changes, I would love to talk with you. I have been counseling children, adolescents, individuals, couples and families for 22 years. We will work together to develop treatment goals and strategies to get things back on course. It is so hard when relationships are stressed or broken, when children are having problems educationally or socially, and when anxiety or depression prevents you from being who you want to be. I can help.

Maybe you're newly single, or new to town, and you despair because you're lonely, you feel lost, and you wonder if things will ever get better. Perhaps you have a history of complicated relationships, and you've noticed you repeat the same cycle but can't stop. Or could it be you say yes... to everything and everyone, and now you're burned out and resentful. Getting up in the morning is a struggle. You're on the verge of crying. You're lashing out. Whatever is going on, your situation is leaving you anxious, discouraged, and even hopeless at times. Sometimes life circumstances feel overwhelming, confusing, or just plain hard.

If you feel overwhelmed by your life or others’ expectations of you or stuck in repetitive patterns and relationships, therapy can be a safe and trusting space to identify feelings and triggers, connect with them, and develop acceptance and trust. By exploring your internal landscape, you can learn to attend to your feelings and desires. This can lead to more clarity and soften internal and external barriers to your desires. By exploring your rich inner world in a safe space, you can expand your awareness of yourself, learn to regulate your emotions, build trust and experience more agency in your life.

As human beings, we are hard-wired for two things: to survive and to connect. I whole-heartedly believe that in order to survive (and thrive!) in life, we need connection. We all want to feel seen, heard, understood, and accepted; these are the basic ingredients in order for us to feel safe in our relationships, and what I strive to bring to you as your therapist. I am equipped to support adults experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, and stress, and parents facing behavioral and relational challenges with children under the age of 7. I also specialize in perinatal mental health and lactation.

Life and relationship challenges usually need more than talk to get through successfully. This is why I specialize in approaches where mind and body work together. Providing healing experiences in therapy, I work collaboratively with you to find ways to change and grow that work for your unique situation. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, which means I've had the master's level training of individual counselors, in addition to training focused on the 'systems' of relationships. I am also PACT and EMDR trained therapist; I have additional training in sexual issues, chronic illness and infertility.

You don't feel like yourself lately and you're longing for more in your life. You feel disconnected from others, tired, and burnt out from doing the same thing every day despite having all of your basic needs met. You're ready for a change and want your life to feel more fulfilling but can't seem to figure out how to keep your wheels from spinning. You might have even been raised by emotionally immature parents who weren't able to give you the tools you needed to be able to live a life that you enjoy living. You're ready to gain the tools and wisdom you need to make a change for yourself.

Welcome! I feel honored to work with children, teens, and young adults who are going through some of the most difficult times of their lives. I specialize in therapy for suicidality and self-injury. People engage in self-injury and experience suicidality for a variety of reasons, but some of the commonalities tend to be dislike of yourself, feeling isolated, and feeling that your psychological pain is unbearable and unsolvable. I work with clients to find ways to feel hope again, start to like themselves, and find alternative ways to cope.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
