Life is hardest when we’re alone in our struggles and pain. We’re wired to bond with others and find safe connections with the ones we love. But sometimes it's hard to feel safe. And when we don't feel safe all sorts of negative emotions find their way to the surface. Anxiety, depression, sometimes even behavioral ruts like anger and shame. We just get stuck. And many times it seems like the harder we try to get out of these ruts, the more stuck we seem to get. But we all want the same things in our relationships. To be seen. To be heard. Are you there for me? Can I count on you? These are healthy goals!

Finding safety when you've been continually hurt isn't just about getting better information. We learn to trust through experience. You can be taught at length that the best way to avoid a bear attack is to stand still and be quiet. But when the bear charges, all that goes out the window. Our bodies, our nervous systems have to experience safety to trust it.

I know what it's like to be stuck. I get stuck in my own relationships. We (and I'm including myself here) just need a place to process what's happening for us. That's my role: a process expert. To better understand your inner world and relationships, your "stuckness", and to help organize your experience and find a safe way to move forward. To get unstuck.

Jeff Moore is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) who practices through the attachment-based, experiential therapy model know as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). EFT is the gold standard of couples therapy and is rooted in research for use with individuals (EFIT), couples (EFCT), and families (EFFT).
