I am a licensed clinical psychologist offering individual and couples psychotherapy. I have been working in the field as a clinician, teacher and researcher for 30+ years. My areas of expertise include trauma/PTSD, relationship issues, depression and anxiety. I view psychotherapy as a collaborative process and tailor my approach to meet individual needs. I strive to be active, flexible, genuine and attentive. To inform my work, I draw from cognitive-behavioral theory (skills based), attachment theory (insight based) and neuroscience research (psychoeducation re: the mind/body connection).
As many problems stem from either escalating emotions or efforts to avoid them, time is spent exploring emotions, which helps us develop targeted coping strategies. I often use guided imagery and mindfulness meditation to facilitate the development of emotional regulation skills and to heal from traumatic experiences.
I am a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the George Washington University, on the Board of the DC Psychological Association, and teach an ongoing seminar (An Integration of Mind/Body Principles, Relational Psychotherapy and Neuroscience) to clinicians.
