About
I tend to see individual adults and couples in my practice who want to develop more self awareness, insight, and understanding as to why they are facing the difficulties or challenges which bring them into work with me. My hope is to help them see where their early childhood experiences impact and affect their functioning as adults. One goal for them is to become more flexible in their thinking and behavior so that they can enjoy their lives more fully. I see my role as an assistant to them in this process, trusting them, their thinking and ability to change.
My belief is that humans have an innate capacity to heal from their hurts, but that this process of healing has been interfered with by well-meaning adults and by an oppressive society. My role is to help clients relearn this natural healing process and be able to use it.
A large part of my work with clients is to get them "feeling their feelings." This means encouraging the emotional release work (crying, laughing, shaking, as well as talking) which are the outward indicators that healing and transformation are taking place. This process is what helps them become more human.
