You need to be understood and accepted. My passion is journeying with clients who wish to understand themselves and engage with therapy on a deep level. Every aspect of life is significant and worthy of exploration: symptoms, relationships, fears, desires, imaginings, dreams, spirituality, griefs, vocation, sexuality, leisure, work, and love. I strive to create an open, non-judgmental space where my clients can understand their defenses, experience symptom relief, and deepen their capacity to be in satisfying relationships. Sexual compulsions, anger, obsessions, and self-esteem issues are some of the few common focus areas.
How does counseling with myself work? In the first session, the client and I explore the reason he or she is seeking counseling including the individual’s hopes and goals. In the second and third sessions, I ask a variety of questions in order to understand the person’s family history, relationships, stressors, and work history to name a few.
In subsequent sessions, the client presents for counseling and sets the agenda for what we, with curiosity, explore. Along the way, clients may find themselves experiencing deeper self-understanding and connectedness as well as discovering more adaptive means of coping with reality.
