I work most effectively with those who may be facing a life transition (occupational, personal relationship, emotional) or a health challenge. For 10 years I was the Director of Psychosocial Oncology at Rush University Medical Center focusing on the emotional aspects of being diagnosed, undergoing treatment and post treatment for cancer. I worked both with patients and family members who were interested in learning how to cope more adaptively with the stressors in their lives. I continue to work with individuals and family members who are struggling to cope with a medical diagnosis.
As a Health Psychologist my focus is keeping individuals as healthy (physically and emotionally) as possible. I primarily use a cognitive therapy approach however, I am open to integrating additional therapeutic styles in my work with clients. I see the therapy relationship as a collaborative effort between the individual and myself.
I integrate strategies to help individuals manage elevated stress and distress including relaxation therapy, guided imagery, mindfulness, and medical hypnosis as appropriate to meet the psychosocial needs of clients.
