I believe that "mental wellness" is a holistic perspective that includes mind, body, and spirit, when a person can feel satisfaction and enjoy life regardless of their current situation. Through psychotherapy I support the process of exploration, growth, and change so that a person can use their strengths and resources to challenge life situations or challenges. I draw from multiple theoretical orientations and view therapy as a collaboration where the client is actively engaged in the process in healing and becoming whole. I believe that internal change engenders external change.
My specialty area is anxiety, stress, and history of trauma, as they impact daily life and functioning. From this perspective, I specialize in life transitions (including divorce and other losses), relationship and identity concerns, women's issues, as well as stress management with individual clients (no couples).
I am a certified EMDR therapist with a focus on medical trauma and history of abuse and trauma. I also have a strong background in multicultural and cross-cultural issues as well as other diversity concerns.
