Hello, I'm James Rubins, a licensed therapist in California with over 40 years of experience counseling individuals, adolescents, and families. I have wide experience in hospitals, community mental health clinics, and private practice office settings. I've helped people with anxiety, depression, anger management, and more, and have decades of experience supporting people in recovery from alcohol and or drug abuse. I was trained in psychodynamic therapy but now find short-term Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is more effective for client needs.
I provide a supportive and flexible environment for clients to feel comfortable sharing their story. I am told I am a "good listener." I ask clients about people who have positively influenced them in the past to find out what characteristics a client finds most supportive and is likely to facilitate their personal change.
In our first session, I'll learn about what is bothering you and what you have tried to do to relieve the pain or suffering you are currently experiencing.
