James Masten
Clinical Social Work/Therapist, PhD, LCSW
Location
I use my training and experience to provide real guidance to people wishing to remove blocks to personal and professional fulfillment, develop a deeper understanding of themselves, and confront negative patterns of behavior. As a professor of clinical practice with individuals, families and groups at New York University, I teach my students to appreciate both the science and the art of psychotherapy. I believe that psychotherapy is most successful in an atmosphere of warmth, humor, and nonjudgmental support. As a psychotherapist, I try to create a professional atmosphere for playful exploration.
My approach is open, compassionate, assertive, and interactive. My style is eclectic. I use psychodynamic, behavioral, short-term, and long-term techniques flexibly, based on the client's needs. You can count on me to be active and involved. I will challenge you so that you can reach your goals.
Over the past fifteen years I have worked with men and women of diverse backgrounds - people seeking help with a wide range of issues. The consultation is an opportunity to get to know one another. Psychotherapy is a partnership. We we work together to determine the best approach for you.
