My patients come to therapy to confront personal suffering and explore big questions about love, work, and what makes a satisfying and useful life. We will work towards the development of self-awareness, improvement over one’s sense of agency, the capacity for realistically based self-esteem, strength in one’s ability to recognize and tolerate feelings, the enhancement of self-cohesion, an expansion of one’s capacity to depend appropriately on others, and the general enhancement of a person’s vitality and creativity in work and relationships.
I integrate psychodynamic depth work and behavioral therapies (CBT and DBT). I am a fellow at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy. I received a BFA from Cooper Union, where I taught for many years. My history in the arts has given me a lens for viewing the therapeutic process as collaborative, generative, and creative.
By cultivating curiosity about ourselves, we can become more aware of our disavowed parts, which, in turn, can allow us to live more realistically, productively, and joyfully. My orientation is rooted in the belief that knowing oneself deeply will have complex positive effects and that being honest with oneself is central to health.
