The most important focus from day one, is for us to build a solid therapeutic alliance, so we can go at problems and celebrate achievements as a team. I am here to tell you that thankfully there is nothing new under the sun and virtually no problem that does not have a solution. And yet most people, myself included, often believe that if we only try harder our problems will improve. Effort is important. However, In actuality we are often operating on long held ideas or beliefs that may have been useful before, they just no longer serve us now. Let's be open. Reevaluating our beliefs is much easier if you have an ally. That's me.
Over fifteen years as a clinician, I've developed a set of skills for addressing a wide range of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. My approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), with an emphasis on rapport building and integrating current best practices to optimize positive outcomes.
I approach every client as my equal and very often have personal experience with the problems or dilemmas similar to those my clients present with. What I bring is personal empathy coupled with clinical expertise. I served on a national best practices committee during which time I was strong advocate of the power of building a therapeutic alliance.
