Hello, I'm James Harris. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor. I have experience in a variety of treatment settings including inpatient psychiatric settings with both children and adults, Outpatient school-based settings, as well as Outpatient mental health and drug and alcohol abuse treatment settings. Person-centered therapy is the foundation of all of my treatment. I believe you are the expert on you and that for personal growth to occur, a strong therapeutic relationship must be established.
From there, I mainly use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy. I've worked with all populations from children to the elderly. I feel comfortable treating almost any condition. I will refer out any clients with a specific condition I do not feel I am adequately trained to treat.
My motivation stems from witnessing the horrible effects drug and alcohol abuse can have on families and those struggling with addictions. I have also had several people near me commit suicide which motivated me to work for nearly 4 years as a mental health tech in suicide treatment centers before becoming a licensed provider.
