I'm Jameela Muhammad, founder of The Melanated Therapist. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or carrying the weight of things that were never yours to hold, you’re not alone. I created this practice for people like you who are ready to heal from generational wounds, life transitions, and everyday stress that too often goes unspoken, especially in minority communities. I work with adolescents and adults navigating trauma, relationships, and identity, and I aim to make therapy feel like a real, grounded conversation because healing doesn’t have to be clinical to be powerful.
In our work together, I draw from a range of approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based practices. This allows me to adapt our sessions to meet your unique needs whether that’s building emotional regulation, increasing self-awareness, or developing concrete coping.
Together, we’ll build self-love, compassion, and practical tools to move through life with clarity and confidence. My goal is to hold a space where you feel seen, supported, and empowered to break cycles and step into who you truly are.
