I use a nonjudgemental, strength-based approach to help people identify and change unwanted patterns and problems in their lives. Some people come to me because they want to better understand and change their relationship to alcohol and/or other drugs. Couples often reach out to me because of violations of trust such as infidelity and deceit from addiction. These problems are particularly challenging to face and talk about. Anger, sadness, shame, and resentments can get in the way, making it difficult to heal, grow, listen, and to love.
In addition to working with clients in a private practice setting, I teach courses at DePaul University on subjects of Motivational Interviewing, couples therapy (based largely on the Gottman Method), and group therapy (e.g. Yalom). I've been a licensed counselor and CADC for 15 years.
To answer a few of the most common questions, my fee is $150 per 45 minute session, I take Bcbs PPO insurance, and currently I only offer virtual sessions (e.g. video or phone). The best way to schedule a session is through the following link -https:/jcolton.youcanbook.me. I look forward to meeting you!
