You’re pretty resilient but life has thrown you a curve ball. Maybe you’ve recently experienced a major transition (marriage/divorce, birth/death, aging, job loss/gain) or; your identity disrupts essential relationships (sexual orientation, religious affiliation, loving outside your race/ethnicity). Maybe a societal ill is beyond your control (racism, sexism, implicit bias, global pandemic). Your spouse/partner, boss, family or a friend has noticed it too but; you can't seem to talk to them about what's happening or you don't feel understood by them when you do. All you want is to feel better and tolerate life's ups and downs.
Incorporating both practical DBT skills with conventional "talk" therapy gives you concrete tools to use immediately while fortifying you for a more deeper emotional dive. Think of an iceberg. Skills acquisition is the tip of the iceberg; Spiritual Depth work accesses what's beneath the surface. I connect you to your core values, resiliency and purpose.
Find your Self here. My work is ideally suited for those individuals, particularly women and especially women of color and; bi-racial/bi-cultural couples who are inquisitive, seek stability in their lives and are willing to explore unfamiliar possibilities.

Jacqueline R Pinn's Groups

Inter-racial/Bi-cultural Couples

Living, dating, loving across cultures? Encountering real or imagined divides that affect you and/or loved ones? This group is a safe place where bi-cultural couples who actively live at the intersection between socially constructed norms of: race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender and/or class lines can gather to talk authentically about their experiences with others. The group determines what the discussion focuses on although common issues that may be addressed include: anger, resentment, communication failures, values & customs--both common & diverse, handling bias, prejudice and social exclusion. Mindfulness practice incorporated; prior experience not required. Consultation required ($100/couple). Limit: 10

DBT Skills

Dialectic Behavior Therapy enhances the quality of your relationships through teaching Mindfulness (staying in the present moment), Distress Tolerance (managing crises), Interpersonal Effectiveness (setting boundaries) and Emotion Regulation (understanding how emotions function). 2-hour sessions focus on skill acquisition, sharing and practicing skills during and between sessions. Similar to a class versus a process group, we use low-risk experiences for practice. Mindfulness is repeated prior to beginning each new module. New members are welcomed then. Modules vary in length from 6-8 weeks. Once you have completed all modules, you are encouraged to repeat the series in order to gain mastery with the skills.
