I am accepting new client(s)! I provide individual and/or group therapy for people from all walks of life. I have worked with people who have symptoms of depression, anxiety, and PTSD to name a few. I like to meet people where they are in the here and now and help them get to where they want to be. Often times the first step into healing is learning to have compassion and love for ourselves as this helps facilitate the desire to care for yourself as well as giving you the motivation to make the changes you would like to see happen. Therapy is a collaboration between the client and therapist working together in order to see change.

I enjoy working with a variety of people from all walks of life. Each person comes with their own set of strengths, accomplishments, challenges, mistakes, goals, ideas, and questions. I have worked with people who have dealt with anxiety, ADHD, depression, OCD, emotional abuse, trauma, relationship issues, stress, low self esteem, college struggles, and life transitions, among others. I have found great joy in helping my clients work on treatment goals to feel more confident, empowered, and self-aware. I have worked with adults 18 and over, children, adolescents, and couples.

As a psychologist, I seek to provide guidance in identifying strategies and solutions for tapping into your inner strengths and capacity for positive change. I have found that a positive therapeutic relationship serves an important role in accessing the resilience, insight, and courage needed to make important lifestyle changes that allow individuals and families to live happier, healthier, and more balanced lives. I approach the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative process where positive change occurs when we work together to identify strategies that will allow you to adaptively manage and overcome difficult life challenges. I strive to create a safe place by providing unconditional support.

As a person of color, a woman, and a Muslim, people might look at me and form some preconceived notions of how I think and what I believe in.
If you are a person who is willing to put the work in, ready to be vulnerable in the process, and wants a therapeutic relationship that is collaborative, I am here for you. I have experience in dealing with depression, anxiety, and multicultural issues. I also have experience with teenagers and young adults dealing with different life transitions and acculturative stress. I am bilingual in English and Arabic, and want to help you express yourself in the language you feel most comfortable in.

Many of us seek therapy at different periods of our lives with different reasons such as couple and family conflicts, losing loved ones, life transition issues, addiction, sadness, anxiety, depression. We sometimes may not figure out what we are going through. Unknowns and uncertainties may increase in our lives and become unmanageable, or we are unable to fulfill our search for meaning. Therapy helps us cope with difficult and painful emotions, figure out what we are going through, and name it. Carl Rogers defines growth as any kind of movement toward “self-esteem, flexibility, or respect and compassion for self and others."

I am EMDR certified. We've all experienced ups and downs, of life, as the ocean we navigate through ebbs and flows. We may be in the same ocean of chaos around us, but out boats are all crafted differently. Some surf through waves in their expensive, privileged Yachts, and some of us are barely keeping afloat in our tattered paddle boats. No matter your type of boat, we all get tossed into the water from time to time. Don't let the waves flood you. Learn to keep your head above the waves, and eventually build up ability to surf over those rough waves with confidence.

Your subconscious wiring is creating your current life. Let us gently rewire and recode. You may feel trapped in your own mind or feeling stuck. The therapeutic relationship between a client and a therapist allows for authentic, honest communication that can feel like a breath of fresh air after going through life telling people we are “fine” when we aren't. We all have a complex and emotional story to tell. I want to help you align with your true desires and values so that you can create the life you want. You get to have abundance, ease, grace, and peace.

As a saathi (companion, ally) on your healing journey, I am here to offer care and support as you process and integrate your experiences, navigate current challenges, and develop your innate strengths along with new skills.

No issue is too small or too large to benefit from therapy. In addition to alleviating the symptoms of emotional pain and stress, one of the greatest benefits of therapy is personal and emotional growth. I specialize in creating a space for my clients to share their stories, identify dependable strengths, clarify values, and establish healthy ways of coping with struggles in life. My areas of expertise are in addressing critical life events, anxiety and ADHD.

Are you feeling stuck? What's getting in the way of living a satisfying life, one with heart and meaning? You may be coming to therapy because of a new development or something very old, you may not even know what it is. You may also be adding to your burden by judging your self unfairly. But there is hope, therapy can usher in exciting transformation. When we can embrace the gifts that come with challenges, old fears lose their power. I deeply enjoy helping clients explore/work through difficulties with the purpose of breaking old patterns and intentionally creating a new path forward. Healing and growth is possible for you too.

Muslim Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

A culturally sensitive therapist will be respectful of faith, race, sexual orientation, gender, age, disabilities, or anything that is relevant to an individual’s reasons for seeking therapy. This mental health practitioner will therefore be able to recognize the role of faith in a client’s life, and they can appreciate the cultural values and beliefs of others. Cultural sensitivity on the part of the therapist may enhance the possibility of a strong therapeutic bond, even if the clinician does not have an extensive understanding of a client’s background before therapy begins.

How might I inquire about a therapist's experience with Muslim clients?

It is best to ask directly whether a therapist has worked with Muslim clients, and if so, the extent to which cultural or religious principles factored into their work together. You can also ask whether a therapist who is familiar with Islamic practices, values, and beliefs incorporates them into their professional work, and if so, how. If the therapist does not have a sufficient knowledge base, they may well know and can refer you to someone who has such experience.

What if the therapist does not have my exact background?

It is not necessary for a therapist to share one’s exact religious background for therapy to be successful. A qualified and culturally sensitive therapist will appreciate diversity within the Muslim community as well as diversity overall, and will have a sense of how religious and cultural issues can contribute to mental health. In addition, a good therapist would be willing to learn from their clients.

How do I recognize an effective Muslim therapist?

Like all therapists, a Muslim therapist who is effective will have the requisite training and expertise in evidence-based techniques, as well as the ability to connect with you on a personal level. An effective Muslim therapist may also demonstrate a clear understanding of your cultural background and faith. A therapist with such cultural sensitivity will set the stage for a strong therapeutic alliance.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of the Muslim faith?

The directory of Muslim therapists includes mental health providers who have shared their cultural background in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist with a similar background. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. When the number of therapists identified as Muslim is limited, the directory will also show therapists with extensive experience working with clients from relevant backgrounds.
