My client can struggle with stressors such as substance use to high-"functioning" depression; individuals that are 'going through the motions' to maintain their day-to-day life, inside they’re screaming. In recognizing the the void in care and understanding of marginalized persons' my approach in counseling is to provide emotional insight and reframing maladaptive thinking patterns through strength building.
My approach is grounded in mindful cognitive behavioral therapy (MCBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), narrative therapy, and trauma-informed care techniques. My theoretical preferences are person-centered; I want to center my clients so they can feel in control of their choices.
