Aside from symptom reduction, my hope for my clients is that they grow toward a stronger connection with their authentic selves. During the process of psychotherapy, I strive toward symptom reduction, as well as helping my clients become better acquainted with the best in who they are. Building self-care habits, self-love and helping with goal setting are important elements in this process. Each client is unique and treatment plans are tailored accordingly. As a minority clinician, of Cuban birth and who lived in Europe as a child, I also bring in sensitivity and knowledge of cultural diversity.
I have worked in the mental health field for nearly thirty years and am trained in approaches including Psychodynamic/Object Relations, CBT, Attachment Theory, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Play therapy. I also have training in the area of giftedness/talent with adults, children and teenagers.
An important element in my practice is encouraging clients to engage in activities that promote healing and growth. This includes journaling, reading, spirituality, exercise, yoga, education regarding nutrition and the encouragement of ongoing leaning/education.
