Hello, my name is Irma Espíritu, and I am a Licensed Family Therapist. I have worked with military families (San Diego is a military city) and the LGBTQ community. I have a strong background in substance abuse counseling. I also have a background in faith counseling. I have always been the kind of person who wanted to make a difference in the world. I started out as wanting to become a journalist, then a teacher and finally a therapist. As a therapist I feel I can make a positive impact in peoples' lives.
My clients describe me as a good listener, empathetic, supportive, and non-judgmental. I believe that as a therapist I need to provide a safe and supportive environment for my clients so they can be themselves without worrying about being judged or ridiculed.
My first few sessions are my "getting to know you." I believe that the best work is done once trust and respect has been accomplished. Each client comes in with different issues and concerns. I do not believe in the "cookie cutter" approach in therapy. Each client is treated with the upmost respect and consideration.
