My clinical experience has been formed from working as a counselor in therapeutic day treatment programs, mental health skill building, intensive in-home counseling, crisis intervention, case management, and assessments.
I strive to provide a safe environment to address various issues that may arise in a person's life. I have experience in different populations to include military, as I am a veteran myself. My speciality population is couples and families. I understand how mental health as well as other factors can impact home life. I also have experience working with young children who suffer with mental illness as well. I strongly feel that therapy is a tool that can also assist you with learning more about yourself.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have acquired a plethora of knowledge that has provided me the tools to serve individuals with various mental illnesses and co-occurring disorders. My goal as a therapist is to help people get through the lousy times, not by removing the garbage, but by walking with them so they can see it is survivable.

My work as a psychotherapist is rooted in a profound belief that by recognizing and honoring our complex, messy life stories with honesty and gentleness, we lay the foundation to heal the obstacles preventing us from building fulfilling, meaningful lives. Throughout life, we all create narratives about ourselves to help us survive. These narratives are shaped by myriad factors (individual life experiences, relationships, intergenerational legacies, and experiences of oppression/privilege, belonging/rejection, among others). Over time, our narratives and coping mechanisms fall short. We wonder, what went wrong? What's wrong with me?

In our lives, we can reach depths that seem impossible to climb out of. In those moments, we tend to turn to our most trusted supports, be it a friend, a family member, or a coworker. However, what happens when, try as they might, those individuals cannot quite fill our cups the way we need? Sometimes we need something or someone different, that's where therapy can help. If you've reached an unbearable depth because of family conflict, past trauma, career or academic related issues, or just daily stressors, I can assist with being the ladder out of the darkness.

I have experience in individual, family and group counseling. My therapeutic approach is person-centered, which focuses personal growth through increasing self-esteem and self acceptance and decreasing feelings of guilt, shame and regret. My goal as a therapist, is to provide a non-judgmental environment conducive for healing and honest self-exploration. Intervention Therapists

How does an intervention work?

An intervention is a planned, structured meeting in which a person’s family or friends voice concerns about the person’s behavior and its consequences; the goal is for the person to accept treatment. In this meeting, the person’s loved ones (often with the guidance of a trained interventionist) share how the person’s behavior has harmed them and the consequences if the person refuses treatment. They collectively ask the person to accept a proposed treatment plan.

How effective are interventions?

There isn’t extensive research on the efficacy of interventions, in part because success is difficult to measure. Individuals often enter addiction treatment after an intervention, for example, but treatment itself may not work, especially if the person only begins due to external pressure from others rather than due to internal motivation to change. However, if all other attempts at helping someone have failed, an intervention may be worth exploring.

What are the limitations of interventions?

While a friend or family member’s intentions are in the right place in wanting to help a loved one through an intervention, there are significant limitations to the approach. The surprising nature of the event can make the person feel ambushed or judged. They may feel embarrassed or ashamed as a result, and relationships may be strained or broken. This can make it difficult for the individual to be receptive to the concerns of their loved ones and the interventionist.

Are there alternatives to interventions?

Rather than confronting a loved one through an intervention, an effective and less pressured approach is to create space for a caring, open, one-on-one conversation. This works best if the loved one asks open-ended questions, listens attentively to the answers, and frames their observations and statements with concern rather than judgment. More than one conversation may be needed, but change can take root over time.
