My passion is to assist my clients in identifying and building upon their own strengths throughout the treatment process. Together we can create a safe, welcoming, confidential, and supportive environment. In doing so, we are better able to prepare for and overcome times of crisis. My wide array of experience comes from a variety of inpatient, outpatient, non-profit, childcare, and educational settings. I am heavily involved in the McHenry County Suicide Prevention Task Force and take a special interest in working with those struggling with self-injurious behaviors, suicidal ideation, and/or suicide bereavement.

There are times when our life, or the lives of family members are no longer as enjoyable as planned. Sadness, arguments, anxiety, and substance use often occur when we experience ourselves going into a direction we don't like. During these challenges, the core of disagreements may simply be a different viewpoint on how a person should live and think. When your challenges become chronic, despite efforts to change, its time to involve professionals. When your way of thinking/behaving no longer progress you towards your goals....it may be time to make the call you frequently thought of making.

I work collaboratively with my clients to expand their insight into all the relevant factors and/or influences that are keeping them from reaching their full potential. These factors often include, but are not limited to; the identified stressor(s) that brought them into therapy; the effectiveness (or lack of effectiveness) of their current coping strategies; the influence past experiences and physical discomfort can have on their decision making and behavior; and increasing his or her awareness of their individual strengths and weakness. Simply put, I systematically help my clients make appropriate changes needed to meet their identified treatment goals.

Hello and welcome! It is not easy searching for a counselor. You can be weighed down by not only this task, but the many powers at be preventing you from moving forward. I'm here to tell you that a lot of times we give many stressful variables a lot of power. We give so much power in fact, that you're not able to unpack what is real and what is the mind creating barriers to success and true joy. These variables can take many forms including addictions, depression, past traumatic events, and anxiety, especially related to future transitions. Most significantly, we lose a sense of who we are and what we have to offer others.

My therapeutic approach is adapted based on the client's needs and social systems. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and families, being mindful of change occurring within the individual and family dynamic. I collaborate with schools, families, doctors, and other sources to assist in advocating for my client's needs. My level of expertise includes individual, group, and family therapy. I implement mindfulness, assertiveness training, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and other methods to address substance dependence/abuse, anxiety, trauma, depression, and other emotional and behavior problem areas. I have specialized in bullying and self-esteem with adolescents.

Depression, anxiety, grief/loss, ADHD, and relationship problems are just some of the many reasons people seek out therapy. You may want to learn ways to feel better and reduce uncomfortable emotions, or you may want to just talk through difficult times. I strive to create a safe place and work collaboratively towards your goals. I focus on creating goals, solutions, process one's past and life circumstances, and teach skills and strategies that will reduce uncomfortable and unpleasant emotions. I provide hypnotherapy and biofeedback for pain management and anxiety/panic as added tools to reduce physcial and emotional discomfort.

As founder of Barrington Behavioral Health & Wellness, she has created a "home" for people where growth and healing are possible. Her own journey has taught her as much as the diplomas on her wall and the credentials behind her name. She was on staff at Lutheran General Hospital and taught at Northeastern IL University. She is trained as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, a Certified Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor, is versed in Hypnotherapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She is also an Employee Assistance Provider.

We solely see first responders, ER staff, and veterans at the FRWC. Being a former Chicago Police Officer for 13 years, I understand the unique needs of first responders and developed the center to help those who protect us. We see first responders due to trauma, crisis, PTSD, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, job-related stress, suicide, etc. We also understand how there are concerns about engaging in therapy services and protecting your job. We ensure that you will have privacy and confidentiality. We have a separate entrance and exit to maintain confidentiality.
