As a clinical supervisor, my goal is to provide high-quality support and guidance to mental health providers. Clinicians are often overworked and under-supported. I provide empathy and collaboration to mental health providers as they navigate clinical issues and develop their personal intervention style. Supervision and consultation is based on individual needs and interests but typically encompass clinical questions and concerns, case consultation, navigating work settings and structures, best practices in service delivery and self care and burnout prevention.

My style/orientation is eclectic with a strong emphasis on cognitive behavior intervention.
We're all just trying to make sense of this thing called life. Some of us are empowered while others struggle. No matter where you might find yourself on this continuum, I can help you. Whether we explore what it means to be more fully actualized or simply craft a space for you to catch your breath during a particular challenging time in your life, I aim to support and walk with you through whatever you present with. It takes courage and ego-strength to know when you want help. Let me be among the first to congratulate and assist you.

Everyone struggles with mental health issues at some point in their lives. Therapy can be used to process and explore what is causing you distress and produce long lasting transformation.  While it can take a lot of courage to pursue therapy it can be a rewarding and fulfilling process if it is a journey you are willing to take.

As a therapist, I work collaboratively with my clients in processing their experiences and finding healthy and productive ways to solve problems as well as gain insight into the reasons for maladaptive behaviors. In the treatment process, I encourage clients to formulate their own treatment goals and we will work together to find ways to achieve these goals via modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral, Psychodynamic, Solutions-focused interventions. I see my role as one of support, guidance, active listening, and empowering the client to develop positive coping mechanisms in the process of making changes to thoughts and behaviors.

Staying centered while balancing the many demands and expectations that our lives place on us may become overwhelming at times. Finding our balance between meeting those demands and creating mind space to explore, grow, replenish, and assert ourselves authentically can be challenging. These imbalances can compromise our psychological and emotional well-being while having a negative impact on our physical and spiritual health. They can also affect our relationships with others, personally and professionally, by influencing the way we perceive our circumstances, communicate with others, and assert our needs.

Our life's work is helping clients achieve a better sense of self and happiness...more recently we've recognized that without good mental health providers, finding this balance in life can be more difficult and stressful. As a result, we tend toward an Integrative approach and help our clients transform into the people they want to be. We see each client as an individual with many parts to their identity. Utilizing a holistic and systemic approach we help clients reintegrate the parts of themselves to function better as individuals and within their systems. Our focus tends toward a systems based approach using behavior methods.

I believe that every person should live up to the potential that they see in their vision; not through the lens someone else ascribes to them. For this reason, I approach each therapeutic relationship as being one of a joint partnership. It is a privilege to work alongside individuals who have recognized they no longer have to work through challenges of life alone. I bring over 5 years of experience working with diverse client demographics with variety of concerns including anxiety, self -harming, grief, depression, psychosis, eating disorders and substance use. My approach is trauma informed, with an emphasis on strength based.

Sometimes it seems like life's challenges are a weight that you carry around all of the time. You wonder what would be possible if you weren't held back by fear, sadness, self-doubt or perfectionism. You feel tired of looking to others to validate you, of taking care of others, or of not being able to communicate effectively. Maybe you wonder what it would be like to live well in the midst of hard circumstances. You want a safe environment to explore and process these struggles and to be able to manage these challenges in a healthy and productive way. You long for personal growth and healing.

Intervention Therapists

How does an intervention work?

An intervention is a planned, structured meeting in which a person’s family or friends voice concerns about the person’s behavior and its consequences; the goal is for the person to accept treatment. In this meeting, the person’s loved ones (often with the guidance of a trained interventionist) share how the person’s behavior has harmed them and the consequences if the person refuses treatment. They collectively ask the person to accept a proposed treatment plan.

How effective are interventions?

There isn’t extensive research on the efficacy of interventions, in part because success is difficult to measure. Individuals often enter addiction treatment after an intervention, for example, but treatment itself may not work, especially if the person only begins due to external pressure from others rather than due to internal motivation to change. However, if all other attempts at helping someone have failed, an intervention may be worth exploring.

What are the limitations of interventions?

While a friend or family member’s intentions are in the right place in wanting to help a loved one through an intervention, there are significant limitations to the approach. The surprising nature of the event can make the person feel ambushed or judged. They may feel embarrassed or ashamed as a result, and relationships may be strained or broken. This can make it difficult for the individual to be receptive to the concerns of their loved ones and the interventionist.

Are there alternatives to interventions?

Rather than confronting a loved one through an intervention, an effective and less pressured approach is to create space for a caring, open, one-on-one conversation. This works best if the loved one asks open-ended questions, listens attentively to the answers, and frames their observations and statements with concern rather than judgment. More than one conversation may be needed, but change can take root over time.
