Life gets difficult. -Our distress may make us uncomfortable, overwhelmed, anxious, angry, sad and/or depressed. -Maybe we experienced a job loss, have to move, had a significant relationship end, or experienced a major shift, change, or transition in our life. -Really, we want to feel "better" and "happier", but how do we get there? Short-term counseling or coaching can help and sometimes we needed to address deeper issues and patterns through psychotherapy. Each of us is different, but maybe you found your way here because you are ready to let go, ready to grow, and ready for something new, different, and better for your life.

Your life feels like a broken record. You wake up, go to work, come home, eat dinner, go to bed. Rinse and repeat. You're not sure what you want out of life, and you're starting to wonder if you'll ever be happy. There's always something that needs to be done, and you never seem to have enough time. You're starting to question your worth. You compare yourself to others and wonder why they seem to have it all together. You feel like you're not good enough. You're lonely. You're tired of feeling this way. You want to break the cycle and start living your life to the fullest. But you don't know where to start.

Whether you're questioning your sexual or gender identity or have been out for years, a therapist that understands you is key. We learn about ourselves through relationships and sometimes what we learned in the past isn’t helpful for us in the present. Trauma, abuse, neglect and microaggressions can teach us that we don’t deserve to have the career, relationships, sexual intimacy, or life that we want. This happens all too often with queer & trans people, especially BIPOC. Without conscious awareness, these lessons may cause us to sabotage ourselves or our relationships, but it’s never too late to start living your best life!

Hello, my name is Melanie, and I’m excited to get to know you! Finding the right therapist for you is so important, and it can be a difficult process, but I’m here to help. Life is unpredictable and challenging, hence why the ability to react to stressors in a healthy way is critical and beneficial to anyone for sustained, long-term happiness. The way in which we regulate our emotions impacts our individual wellbeing and our relationships with those around us. If we can learn together how to internalize and reflect on emotions in a healthy,  personalized way, you will be more well-equipped to be your best self in any situation.

I help kids, grownups, and everyone in between find their own True Voice, so they can live the lives they deserve. Maybe your child is misbehaving at school, or your teenager is sullen and distanced, or you're in love and know you'd like to stay with this person, if you could only change a few things that really scare you. Or maybe there's an aggressive part of you that your parents didn't know how to handle, or a hurt and vulnerable side that you've always felt too ashamed to feel.

Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed? Maybe you feel that no one can understand what you're going through? Do people consistently want to give you their two cents or give you unsolicited advice? Coming to therapy won't be a quick fix to everything, but it can be a place where you will get the time to discuss anything you want. I believe it is important for women and those identifying as women to have a space to feel comfortable and have the freedom to express yourself. I approach my work with kindness, humor, and a dedication to helping each of my clients create lasting positive effects for their lives.

I teach couples powerful tools and give homework. My background is in Positive Psychology. People describe me as warm, down-to-earth and they say I have a good sense of humor. I think couples therapy should be uplifting -- and show results. I help all kinds of couples: married and unmarried, straight, gay, and couples soon to marry. I'm dedicated to helping couples overcome their problems. I'm even-handed and I find solutions. (And on a personal note, I've been happily married for 30 years). I combine Positive Psychology, CBT, mindfulness, Gottman, and the best of contemporary psychology. I taught in the medical school at UCLA.

I see you took the first step to begin or continue your path in attending to your mental health and emotional needs that may be impacting your growth and/or movement on your life's journey. My role as your therapist is to provide a therapeutic space by providing supportive listening and reflection so you can explore and discover your true authentic self, your best self. Part of the journey here in my potential work with you is to help you achieve the best version of yourself. What I have found helpful is looking back to your past by processing unresolved childhood traumas and fractured relationships that impact your current relation

As a Sexuality Specialist and CSAT, I have successfully treated clients struggling with many different sexual problems (Men: erectile dysfunction, rapid/premature/delayed ejaculation. Women: low desire, painful intercourse, vaginismus/vulvadynia. Either: sexual inexperience, sexual anorexia, childhood sexual traumas including incest). FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Los Angeles?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
