Are you struggling to manage your child’s behavior? Do you want to have more consistent, peaceful and effortless routines and schedules for yourself and for your child? Are you wondering if your child will ever grow out of throwing tantrums, or one day start eating wider variety of food? Are you tired, overwhelmed, feel like there just isn't enough time in the day? Parents are being uncharacteristically challenged in the current environment, and finding the balance can be challenging. My practice includes short and long term intervention helping individuals and parents identify and attain goals using the principal of ABA.

Life can be isolating when it's only YOU vs. YOUR struggles. As YOUR therapist, I help YOU transform YOUR pain into personal power when YOUR anxiety or depression takes over at the worst possible moments. It's confusing wrestling with day-to-day anger, pain & loss. This time can feel overwhelming & crippling. It may affect YOUR relationships with family, friend colleagues, & mostly, yourself. As Alder says, “courage does not happen when YOU have all the answers. It happens when YOU are ready to face the questions YOU have been avoiding YOUR whole life! How do YOU courageously face the difficult questions & reclaim YOUR strength?

I help men work on the problems they don’t like to talk about. Painful things like anger, depression and anxiety, relationships, parenting, career, and grief. I lean on skill and experience in my work, of course, but it’s my relationship with my clients that matters most. We have a partnership where, together, we make room for empathy, show judgment the door, and stand shoulder-to-shoulder throughout the process of growth and change. You're never alone in this work.

I combine a unique and specialized form of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) based on Choice Theory with a Family Systems approach to treatment. I view maladaptive behavioral patterns as a result of inadequate or dysfunctional life choices. I assist my clients in recognizing these patterns of behavior and encourage them to draw realistic and practical solutions to the things that are hindering growth and happiness through the choices they make in life. I work collaboratively with my clients using a "here and now" problem-solving technique and develop a treatment plan that uses psychotherapy, exercise, nutrition, and social support networks.

Welcome to my practice. I have been in practice since 2007 and have been featured on ABC, NBC, and KCAL as an expert psychologist. I work primarily with men who have hit “rock bottom” and would like help getting up. These men are often in crisis when we first meet. The issues I address are typically related to unhealthy sexual behaviors, infidelity, financial recklessness, gambling, drugs/alcohol, dishonesty/lying, and relational conflicts. My therapy approach is a combination of psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and the 12-Step recovery model. I also share insight from my own painful but redemptive recovery journey.

I have a specialization working with couples, families and individuals; as well as substance abuse/chemical dependency and addiction treatment (porn, sex & gambling). In many cases the depressed and anxious client is self medicating in some way to alter underlying feelings of depression, anxiety and intimacy/attachment issues. I use Somatic Experiencing, a very effective treatment for trauma/PTSD symptoms, helping the body and mind regulate itself. Clients in relationships with loved ones addicted or abusing substances can benefit from therapy to learn how to take care of themselves so as to limit the toxicity of the proximity

You are here for that sense of belonging & connection, especially when multiple global crises have left communities hopeless, and in a constant state of vigilance. While some anxiety/depression is a normal response to the hyper-violence we are facing as a collective (on screens or in reality), it can feel extremely overwhelming to experience this every day, on top of expectations from work, family, and other relationships. As a child of the Lao Isaan/Southeast Asian diaspora, my passion is working with fellow children of refugee/immigrant diasporas to feel seen + heard + validated through an anti-oppressive framework.

Therapy can hold a space of exploring where our inner observer is hiding and how we can pull their reaching hand through the unconscious rubble. Where we can point to elements in our self dialogue that fuel our dissatisfaction. Where we can feel the emotions that are in cohesion with our experience. This is where change lies and where we as an alliance can help facilitate a life you've been waiting to embark on. Whether it is addiction, familial conflict, identity disarray, lack of passion, anxiety spirals. depressive bruising, or relationship chaos, I offer you the space where we can combat these psychic tensions, together.

Life is a journey full of ups, downs, and forks in the road which can bring about stress, anxiety, depression, and an overall feeling of helplessness. Most of the time, it’s easy to navigate on our own, but quite often, a licensed psychotherapist is needed to restore balance and provide the necessary tools to rebuild and/or redirect your life toward becoming more fulfilling, uplifting, and enjoyable. As your therapist, I’m committed to creating a safe place to address any issues you feel are holding you back from becoming the very best version of yourself; creating a relationship built on trust, honesty, and understanding.

Intervention Therapists

How does an intervention work?

An intervention is a planned, structured meeting in which a person’s family or friends voice concerns about the person’s behavior and its consequences; the goal is for the person to accept treatment. In this meeting, the person’s loved ones (often with the guidance of a trained interventionist) share how the person’s behavior has harmed them and the consequences if the person refuses treatment. They collectively ask the person to accept a proposed treatment plan.

How effective are interventions?

There isn’t extensive research on the efficacy of interventions, in part because success is difficult to measure. Individuals often enter addiction treatment after an intervention, for example, but treatment itself may not work, especially if the person only begins due to external pressure from others rather than due to internal motivation to change. However, if all other attempts at helping someone have failed, an intervention may be worth exploring.

What are the limitations of interventions?

While a friend or family member’s intentions are in the right place in wanting to help a loved one through an intervention, there are significant limitations to the approach. The surprising nature of the event can make the person feel ambushed or judged. They may feel embarrassed or ashamed as a result, and relationships may be strained or broken. This can make it difficult for the individual to be receptive to the concerns of their loved ones and the interventionist.

Are there alternatives to interventions?

Rather than confronting a loved one through an intervention, an effective and less pressured approach is to create space for a caring, open, one-on-one conversation. This works best if the loved one asks open-ended questions, listens attentively to the answers, and frames their observations and statements with concern rather than judgment. More than one conversation may be needed, but change can take root over time.
