It’s been said that if we can survive the war that we battle with ourselves, we can survive anything. I genuinely believe that everyone can benefit from therapeutic intervention as a resource for adjusting to life’s unexpected changes and personal growth. I have a passion for bringing healing to individuals who have experienced trauma or are currently facing daily struggles that seem impossible to overcome. I strive to help my clients find healthy perceptions of themselves and know that no single approach is the right one for every individual. I genuinely aspire to work intensely with clients to find what works best for them.

I also work extensively with addiction and recovery issues including intervention, assessment and referral to higher levels of care, and working with families touched by addiction.
Asking for help is difficult, sometimes overwhelming. Most people are touched by anxiety, depression, relationship issues and even addiction at some point in their lives, either within themselves or a family member. I create a safe, relaxing and inviting space for you to begin dealing with these difficult, but treatable issues. Many people, particularly men, are socialized to ignore or never discuss their innermost feelings and worries. College students often struggle with questions about whom they are and whom they want to become. Parents often feel powerless to help their children. Together, we can work toward achieving your goals.

My intervention includes both reinforcing an inward journey to help client recognize their innate need for authentic contentment while addressing their shallow/ temporary approach to satisfy that need in the external world.
Do you feel lost when you're away from peers or friends? Does solitude bother you? Has your fear and anxiety increased since the coronavirus pandemic started? I would love to help you learn and apply proper coping skills and use this time as a tool to develop a better self-connection and achieve satisfaction with life. My ideal client can be of any age. They are falling behind academically or in their career although they are intelligent, they have a big group of friends who adore them, yet they feel alone or depressed. These individuals are looking for lasting happiness in their private lives.

For many years my clients have primarily been individuals, groups, and families coming out of abusive and sometimes violent relationships and addiction. Although that was the original primary focus, most of them also struggled with other accompanying factors like depression, anxiety and other serious mental health diagnoses. My clinical focus has recently shifted to more of a community-based population. I have found this work incredibly rewarding. I enjoy working with additional needs such as grief, prenatal, postpartum depression, and abandonment trauma to name a few.

I believe each individual is the expert in their own life and once we can grasp this concept, real change and growth can occur. It is my belief that as a therapist, I have the opportunity to empower individuals to realize their own strengths and abilities to accomplish their goals and find well-being. I feel the therapeutic relationship, and the trust and empathy in that relationship, is one of the most important factors when it comes to working with clients on their self-understanding and change.

I believe clients DESERVE to be treated fairly and honestly. I prefer to work with my clients to help them achieve the life of their choosing, not my choosing. We all have an idea of what we want in life and how we want our lives to be, "our ultimate goal". Many times in life we experience obstacles and challenges which can interfere with us reaching that goal and making the most out of life. We will work together to help you achieve "YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL"!!!

I know it can be hard dealing with constant overthinking and uncertainty. Are you looking for solutions? Do you feel like nobody understands you or wants to listen? Or maybe you have a hard time dealing with your emotions? Your first step is to THINK about what you want and need. Second step is to TALK about your issues and concerns. Third step is to RELEASE what you need to allow yourself to be in a different space.

Intervention Therapists

How does an intervention work?

An intervention is a planned, structured meeting in which a person’s family or friends voice concerns about the person’s behavior and its consequences; the goal is for the person to accept treatment. In this meeting, the person’s loved ones (often with the guidance of a trained interventionist) share how the person’s behavior has harmed them and the consequences if the person refuses treatment. They collectively ask the person to accept a proposed treatment plan.

How effective are interventions?

There isn’t extensive research on the efficacy of interventions, in part because success is difficult to measure. Individuals often enter addiction treatment after an intervention, for example, but treatment itself may not work, especially if the person only begins due to external pressure from others rather than due to internal motivation to change. However, if all other attempts at helping someone have failed, an intervention may be worth exploring.

What are the limitations of interventions?

While a friend or family member’s intentions are in the right place in wanting to help a loved one through an intervention, there are significant limitations to the approach. The surprising nature of the event can make the person feel ambushed or judged. They may feel embarrassed or ashamed as a result, and relationships may be strained or broken. This can make it difficult for the individual to be receptive to the concerns of their loved ones and the interventionist.

Are there alternatives to interventions?

Rather than confronting a loved one through an intervention, an effective and less pressured approach is to create space for a caring, open, one-on-one conversation. This works best if the loved one asks open-ended questions, listens attentively to the answers, and frames their observations and statements with concern rather than judgment. More than one conversation may be needed, but change can take root over time.
