Augusta is an empathic practitioner who is passionate about helping clients to grow as individuals, while improving their emotional and physical well-being. As with most healers, she came to psychotherapy by way of seeking change, and has a first hand understanding of what it feels like to need guidance and support. When working with clients, she relies on an integration of methods tailored to meet the needs of the client she is working with. She prefers a holistic framework focusing on the interconnectedness of our minds and body using a combination of psychodynamic, CBT, DBT and mindfulness-related yoga/Buddhist interventions.

Down bad? Feeling wonky? Lets talk about it. I help clients with a variety of issues by tailoring my therapeutic approach to their unique needs and goals. I want everyone I work with to realize their full potential by restructuring maladaptive thought patterns that lead to distress and poor functioning. I hope to give my clients the space to process their thoughts and emotions, and understand the ways in which their behavior and subconscious beliefs about themselves and the world around them play into false narratives that ultimately keep themselves down. I strive to help my clients to learn to love themselves without condition.

Why therapy? I believe that we all reach places in our lives where we need to slow down and reconnect with ourselves. At times therapy can feel like an essential human need - a place to go when you need to feel understood, supported and cared for. A strong therapeutic relationship can be one of the most important and unique relationships in your life. My goal is to work together to help you feel empowered and capable of change. Lets explore the patterns that may be holding you back and help you move forward!

My passion lies in working with individuals who have been diagnosed with a serious mental illness. My work as a psychiatric social worker has influenced my strong belief in the power of talk therapy within the world of psychiatry and mental health as a complement to other treatments. While medications can treat symptoms, processing past experiences can really help address the underlying issues that may be contributing to the symptoms. As your therapist, I want to dig down there with you to understand how past experiences are impacting you now and explore strategies we can put in place to help you move toward your future.

Welcome. You might have a difficult moment in your life. Whatever your issues, needs and goals are -therapy is a wonderful experience being with someone who can hold space for you. There are many life areas where therapy could be helpful. In my practice, we work collaboratively to create a safe space, learn how to slow down, listen to your body, listen to ourselves, develop fresh language which can describe our process, and access inner wisdom. We develop a therapeutic relationship which will support our process with gaining clarity, relief, balance, and reconnecting with all parts of us which are suffering.

My goal as a therapist is to help put you in the driver's seat of your life. By collaboratively exploring the past and present we will work to develop the self understanding that will allow you to change, develop, and feel more fulfilled. My approach is to respect your essential dignity and to provide a safe environment by listening without judgement. My training is holistic and I draw from such theories as Narrative, CBT, Imago, Solution Oriented, and anything else that seems useful and constructive to the therapeutic process.

Intervention Therapists

How does an intervention work?

An intervention is a planned, structured meeting in which a person’s family or friends voice concerns about the person’s behavior and its consequences; the goal is for the person to accept treatment. In this meeting, the person’s loved ones (often with the guidance of a trained interventionist) share how the person’s behavior has harmed them and the consequences if the person refuses treatment. They collectively ask the person to accept a proposed treatment plan.

How effective are interventions?

There isn’t extensive research on the efficacy of interventions, in part because success is difficult to measure. Individuals often enter addiction treatment after an intervention, for example, but treatment itself may not work, especially if the person only begins due to external pressure from others rather than due to internal motivation to change. However, if all other attempts at helping someone have failed, an intervention may be worth exploring.

What are the limitations of interventions?

While a friend or family member’s intentions are in the right place in wanting to help a loved one through an intervention, there are significant limitations to the approach. The surprising nature of the event can make the person feel ambushed or judged. They may feel embarrassed or ashamed as a result, and relationships may be strained or broken. This can make it difficult for the individual to be receptive to the concerns of their loved ones and the interventionist.

Are there alternatives to interventions?

Rather than confronting a loved one through an intervention, an effective and less pressured approach is to create space for a caring, open, one-on-one conversation. This works best if the loved one asks open-ended questions, listens attentively to the answers, and frames their observations and statements with concern rather than judgment. More than one conversation may be needed, but change can take root over time.
