I am located in Helper, Utah and provide services across Utah and Colorado through telehealth. I use several modalities including EMDR, ego state approaches, emotional freedom technique, breathwork, and connecting the mind and body. Since I believe individuals are the experts of their own narratives, I help individuals connect to a deeper level of themselves to access the infinite wisdom that is carried within. Clients are able to not only able to reduce and gain mastery of their symptoms, they also shift long-held negative perceptions and walk away knowing and loving themselves at a deeper level.

The clients I see are familiar with pain. They want life and/or relationships to be better. They often seek understanding of themselves and respond affirmatively to guidance, empathy, and support. They come to improve the way they see and treat themselves. They come to find and/or restore their inner resilience. They want to increase coping skills, develop self-compassion and courage, and enhance their interpersonal skill and confidence.

I see teens, young adults, and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, individual issues within relationships, attachment difficulties, or families needing to improve interpersonal relationships.
Our lives can feel overwhelming and difficult, especially when our thoughts, relationships or behaviors are off. When we don’t feel the way we want to feel, its easy to wonder if anyone else understands where we are coming from. Our thoughts or feelings can become overwhelming and impact every other aspect of our lives. There are many things that can have great influence on how we see the world, our feelings, and our life experience. It is my goal to help each client heal from past difficulties and move forward in a positive and healthy way.

My treatment approach is foundationally built on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skill building; addressing three major areas: emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal skills.
As a clinician, I work to develop a secure and trusting relationship with clients rooted in transparency and mutual vulnerability. My strengths based perspectives allows one to uncover parts of themselves that may have been lost due to society’s grueling demands. How can you access a deep level of emotion when you’re just trying to keep your head above water today? When you juggle your job, school, children, relationships, etc.; it can be challenging to experience moments of joy. My goal is to encourage you in your journey and make aspects of your present life more manageable.

As a therapist, I use Interpersonal Psychotherapy and attachment-based approaches in my work.
I approach therapy with a nonjudgmental perspective and a curiosity to understand the unique experiences leading clients to therapy. I believe a strong, genuine connection and collaboration between therapist and client can not only be an opportunity to improve coping skills and process through trauma and other difficulties, but also a catalyst to improving access to experiences of joy and contentment in life. I support clients with their therapy goals whether returning or starting for the first time. Therapy is often a brave journey of exploring the parts of ourselves that we might avoid… feeling scared, sad, angry, confused.

I approach the therapeutic relationship in a way that is interpersonal and connected focusing individually on each person with whom I work.
I have an affinity for working with individuals who are longing for change, meaningful connection, and internal safety. Many have gone through life feeling unseen, at the mercy of, or in the shadows of others making it difficult to establish boundaries, self-compassion, and authentic connection. If you can relate and are having a difficult time with anxiety, depression, complex trauma/developmental trauma, ADHD, Adult Autism Spectrum, religious/spiritual wounding, sexuality, and/or other situations that have left you feeling disconnected from the life you want to live, you are not alone, it can be different.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
