I believe in using a variety of theories and techniques tailored to each individual's personality and unique set of needs - including cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, mindfulness, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
I believe in meeting each client where they are at currently & taking time to understand each person’s unique story. You may come to a spot where you feel stuck in your story and unable to move forward. You may find yourself feeling overwhelmed, weighed down, or having difficulty connecting with others. I aim to create a safe and non-judgmental space for client's to participate in healing conversations. This space starts with a therapeutic relationship built on trust and acceptance, no matter who you are or what you are going through.

My approach is very empowering; I will help you elevate your self-esteem, improve interpersonal relationships, enhance communication skills, and relieve you from anxieties you are struggling with.
You are the expert on your life; you are the one who knows what goal you want to set up for your happiness. Do not let your stress, anxiety, depression, and self-defeating thoughts hold you back from your goal. People are often diagnosed with mental health conditions and substance use disorders. Risk factors for SUD usually include trauma, stress, anxiety, and depression. Acknowledging the symptoms are often difficult, with the therapy you will find your strength, triggers, and patterns and will be able to perceive a positive world to have a successful happy life.

The client and I work on these goals using several evidence-based interventions, such as CBT, interpersonal therapy, grief and trauma work to modify learned unhelpful responses.
Many women experience emotional challenges that manifest as anxiety, depression, and behavioral issues. These symptoms may appear suddenly or over time in response to a major life occurrence. My niche clinical practice focuses on women's issues- particularly within the areas of loss and grief, physical and sexual trauma, and maternal mental health. My expertise as a grief and trauma therapist services women who experience emotional and behavioral issues in response to miscarriage, infertility, postpartum depression, and other women’s issues that involve mood disorders, anxiety and decreased relationship satisfaction.

My theoretical orientation is eclectic and integrative incorporating interpersonal process therapy (IPT) (here and now), psychodynamic, relational and CBT models. I approach therapy from a strengths based approach, focusing on client’s inherent strengths and resiliencies rather than their weaknesses. I also utilize CBT to focus on changing negative core beliefs and cognitive distortions and DBT to teach distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal assertiveness skills. Lastly, I am very relational in my approach in order to provide clients with a corrective emotional experience and holding environment for them to feel safe, secure, empowered and validated.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
