I believe that “trauma is not what happens to us, but what we hold inside in the absence of an empathetic witness.” I work with those who have experienced various forms of trauma, including shock, developmental, medical, relational, and religious trauma. I also work with those experiencing forms of depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and those experiencing systemic and cultural forms of oppression. I approach my work with clients from a Client-Centered perspective integrating cognitive-behavioral, brief-solution focused, and Interpersonal processing perspectives and techniques. I also like to engage my clients in existential thought to explore what provides meaning and purpose in their lives as unique individuals and integrate Logotherapy and other meaning and purpose based philosophies into my practice.

(he/him/his) Simon is interested in helping his clients experience the present moment without judgment through body and emotion-focused awareness. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Addiction Studies from the University of Cincinnati and his Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Ohio State University. He completed an 18-month Gestalt theory and practice training program at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland in 2017. Simon is also trained in Prolonged Exposure Therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. He has previously worked with a large and diverse university student population.

I believe that people have the ability to change and heal through talk therapy. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental, and warm environment where my clients can become the individuals they want to be. My therapeutic style is an integration of psychodynamic, humanistic, and interpersonal therapies, while always holding cultural identities and values. I use mind/body based practices to help individuals reduce stress and increase their sense of connectedness to themselves and others. I assist my clients in identifying barriers, maximizing their strengths, and building self-compassion from a position of empathy and genuineness.

We are a group private practice with multiple therapists including EMDR and trauma informed clinicians. We also have a psychiatric nurse practitioner for medication management. We serve individuals, families, parents, couples, and groups. At Gestalt Columbus, we work alongside our clients to treat the whole person - mind and body. We understand the complexity of interpersonal relationships and the difficulty of changing established patterns with partners, family, friends and work associates. Solutions to deep, personal suffering must be rooted in real-life understanding and not just a quick fix or a one-size-fits-all approach.

Supporting growth in self-awareness helps us lean into who we are, accept ourselves, and look at growth edges that may be painful or scary. As a therapist, I encourage my clients to achieve better ways of engaging with problems of living and improve personal well-being by expanding self-awareness and developing interpersonal communication skills. I practice from a clinical, Gestalt-oriented, developmental lens with evidence-based approaches, to support clients where they are and as they engage in the therapeutic process.

I am a socially responsible practitioner, who respects and celebrates human diversity and difference. Trained as a generalist, I provide psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults. I specialize in working with emerging adults, ages 15-25, and individuals coping with various life transitions, self-harming behaviors, anxiety symptoms, disordered eating habits, self-esteem concerns, and women's issues. Additionally, areas of interest include grief/trauma counseling, depression, LGBTQ related topics, and eliminating self-defeating behaviors.

I am experienced in helping clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, and many other challenges. I have decades of experience working with diverse populations, and I have a keen awareness of how difficult life can be at times. I am here to make suggestions, share my clinical expertise, and offer encouragement and feedback.

I approach therapy from a perspective learning and believe that the more we learn about ourselves, the better able we are to make choices about how we want to move forward in life. I use an integrative framework to address each client’s individual needs. I work from a trauma informed lens and use interventions from existential, Attachment Theory, Gottman, ACT, IPT, and EFT.
