I do not focus solely on the symptoms of anxiety, depression and interpersonal conflict but also on the issues underlying them.
Whether you are entering therapy with a clear vision of what you are looking for or are more uncertain of your goals, I will work with you to come up with strategies for growth and the development of optimal emotional health and functioning. I believe that healing occurs through the process of building a trusting therapeutic relationship. By creating a safe and confidential environment I will help you to better understand patterns (which are often outside of your awareness) that lead to emotional distress. Recognition of these patterns empowers you to make choices that can lead to life long change.

I incorporate a variety of therapy techniques ranging from interpersonal theories to skill based approaches while weaving in humor, books, play/art, and mindfulness.
At some point in all of our lives, we can benefit from support to manage life’s challenging moments. There may be times where we do not feel as though life is going as well as we planned, which can leave us feeling frustrated, depressed, anxious, empty, or hopeless. Seeking support during these times has been shown to help lessen the harmful impacts from these emotions, helping individuals navigate these events is one of the reasons why I chose to pursue my doctorate.

Sometimes you may find yourself experiencing conflicting emotions or in complex relationships. Therapy helps you find clarity and return to emotional wellness. I include family members in session when helpful and I explore with you ways to achieve enriching emotional and interpersonal experiences. I offer an interpersonal, warm, person-centered approach that helps one feels safe and comfortable.
Life is hard and often not fair at times. We seek therapy to feel heard, validated and find ways to move through our pain. I work with a broad range of individuals, couple's and families. My passion is helping those with relational issues, developmental trauma, substance use as well as eating disorders. I will work with individuals (13+). I love working with transplants as I understand the complexities of moving to another part of the country and not knowing the culture. My goal is to help you find yourself, that internal voice that tells you, "you are worthy, you are enough."

I am a Spanish speaking, culturally responsive therapist that uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family systems, EMDR, and Interpersonal Process Therapy to help each one of my clients look inside themselves in a journey of personal exploration and self-reflection.
Welcome and peace to you as you begin this healing journey. I imagine this may be a trying time as you may be feeling happy some moments while devastated at others. Do not push yourself to resolve whatever hurt you may be carrying at this moment and instead be gentle with yourself and trust in your own extraordinary power to heal. Know that you are not alone as we all struggle with something and we are all working through it. You have taken the first big step and for that I commend you.

As a psychologist I specialize in cognitive-behavioral therapy and other evidence-based therapies such as mindfulness, interpersonal therapy and ACT.
Many of us struggle with anxiety, stress, and trouble sleeping. We can find ourselves facing difficult life changes and transitions, experiencing difficult relationships, work problems, or issues related to aging and loss. It seems easy these days to feel anxious, discouraged and uncertain about the future. If you are experiencing any of the above concerns, therapy could help. Effective therapy can equip clients with the skills, self-confidence and resilience they can apply effectively to their present situation and also in the future when issues arise.

The stories we tell ourselves are just as important as the stories we tell those around us. We all deserve the healing that comes with being able to express who we are in a way that feels true. Therapy can be a supportive and safe place to explore the different parts of yourself and help navigate experiences as you move towards this most authentic version of yourself. My passion is working with individuals and families as they begin to explore these questions of identity and place in their communities. I work with my clients in a relational focus environment to discover tools and insights that support health and healing.

I believe that each person is unique and that the best way to help them is to find the therapy approach that is most suited to their individual needs and where they currently are in life. I take a collaborative approach to therapy, which means that I work with my clients to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs. I believe that the most important part of therapy is creating a safe and supportive environment where my clients can feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings.

My door is open to anyone who wants to talk. Sometimes it can be hard to know exactly what our feelings are, or what changes would be possible or meaningful. In a safe, non-judgmental space, we can work together to get at these experiences, find words for them, and understand how they fit into overall patterns of living. By digging deeper, and compassionately exploring our pasts, we become better able to live in the present.

A collaborative perspective is important. That's why working together toward developing a good rapport and trust is needed in therapy. My style and approach includes warmth, sensitivity, honesty and humor, laughing is healing. Change comes with being understood, listened to and feeling comfortable. Healing starts with courage and wisdom and coming to therapy is a big step. Everyone's journey to healing is different, therefore I do my best to tailor treatment to fit your needs. I help people find their voice and true selves, whose lives have been impacted by trauma and various forms of abuse in their childhood. By engaging in deep meaningful conversation and exploring with art materials in sessions, we can choose to move from survival and reactions to owning and living our lives fully. Much of traumatic experiences reside in the non-verbal part of the brain. The use of creative art therapy allows the individual to express feelings in a visual and sensory way, allowing for a better understanding of the feeling which allows us to find our own buried truths.

I offer therapy for a variety of mental health issues and have an extensive background in depth psychology and Jungian therapy. I enjoy working with individuals who are interested in deeply understanding themselves. In contrast to mainstream approaches to therapy, which focus on teaching skills or challenging a person's thinking, I emphasize working to understand the emotional-relational-spiritual roots of my client's psychology. It is at this deeper level that lasting change can occur.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
