By using CBT/DBT and trauma informed care, clients address negative cognitive, emotional and behavioral patterns; gain skills to accept themselves, manage emotions, feel safe, implement long term coping strategies for fear, depression, anxiety, guilt, shame, substance use, impulsivity, conflict, irritability, persistent worry, depression, and trauma. I use trauma informed care to help with dissociation, trigger response and hypervigilance that cause unhealthy functioning, expecting catastrophic outcomes and more. I use CBT to teach, find and replace maladaptive thoughts that cause low mood and undesired behaviors.
My clients are able to increase emotion regulation and appropriate stress response in relationships; improve interpersonal and communication effectiveness; and increase awareness of thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and behavioral urges. My therapeutic approach supports the mental and emotional well being of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ identities.
You'll benefit from techniques including reframing, mindfulness, compassionate open and closed questions, empathic listening, reflection of feeling, reflection of meaning and containment. I'm deeply empathic with an ability to use compassion and directness to guide and encourage you through the hard places so you can get through, and come out the other side.

Carrie Cornwell's Groups

DBT Skills Group for Substance Use

This group provides practical ways to approach managing substance use disorders. Each group begins with a mindfulness activity, a foundational skill in DBT used address impulsivity and improve awareness, attunement to emotions and intentional decision making. Next comes homework review. Homework ensures that skills learned in each group session are used. ? The last portion of the group is dedicated to learning a new skill.
