Based upon your individual goals and life experiences, the focus of our work may be solution based, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic or interpersonal.
Our lives are full of obstacles that that can prevent us from living life to it's fullest. Some obstacles we seem to bring upon ourselves while others are thrust upon us. Overcoming these obstacles can be difficult and sometimes painful. I see my role, as a therapist, as helping individuals identify the thoughts and emotions connected to life's challenges and dealing with them in a way which promotes understanding, growth and healing.

Let's be honest, we're all out here just trying our best. Most are no stranger to the stress, pressure, and sky-high expectations of everyday life. Therapy provides a place to reflect, heal, and grow on your terms; this is vital if your everyday environments do not provide this. A few specialities include: Co-dependency, boundary-setting, major life changes, anxiety, self-esteem, identity; I am here to help with it all. I am also passionate about creating safe and affirming spaces for those who identify as LGBTQIA+; providing support to individuals who may be seeking out a queer therapist. Call to schedule a consultation with me!

These symptoms take over at the worst possible moments, therefore, finding it debilitating and are in need of help to decrease these symptoms, and find fulfillment in their lives. People do not fit in perfect little boxes, nor should treatment be tailored to a "one size fits all " approach. Everyone is different and unique. I believe it is important to find creative and healthy ways to help children, teens, adults, couples and their families to solve problems and move forward in their lives.

Today many people are struggling with increased stress, depression, and anxiety due to the COVID virus coupled with any other stressors they had before. Most people are looking to make some changes in their life. If you find it difficult to concentrate, make decisions, or motivate yourself it may be time to talk to someone. If you are taking medications for mental health, it is always a great idea to participate in therapy for long-term coping skills. If you are a veteran and in need of a private evaluator for Compensation and Pension disability claims, I have extensive experience conducting these types of evaluations.

Choosing a therapist is a difficult decision as therapy can often feel like a scary experience. I believe it is essential to create an environment where the therapist provides the safety necessary for the client to express their vulnerability. Therefore it is my goal to meet the client where they are and gently guide them towards resolution of the issues they wish to address. I believe in a collaborative process where we work together towards specific goals.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
