I work with Individuals, Couples and Families who can sometimes feel "stuck" not heard or unhappy. I believe that my clients are the experts and my goal is to guide them in understanding the "why," "how," and "what's next." I believe that even in our darkest times we all have strengths that can help us achieve the goals we want within our relationships with ourselves and the others in our life and my role in the therapeutic process is to guide you towards those strengths so together we can bring back into light they deserve. I like to go at my client(s) pace so to not push or create unattainable expectations.

We all have unique stories: some are buried deep, some are open wounds, some we band aid and some we would rather forgot. Being able to have support and a safe place to look into these stories and then change the narrative to encompass the whole story requires a readiness to grow and heal from the inside out so that your new stories empower you and impact all of your relationships, including the relationship with yourself. Are you ready to heal and move into a more authentic and connected self?

It is an evidenced based practice which teaches skills of emotion regulation, interpersonal skills, distress tolerance and mindfulness.
In the past 17 years I have become quite adept at working with clients who have trauma histories. Trauma can be major or it can be minor. I find that all human beings have experienced some form of trauma in their lives and this trauma often contributes to our current challenges. I use a method called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) with many of my clients. This is a physiological method that is both quick and effective. So whether you are suffering from depression, anxiety, addiction, ect. I can help you both rapidly and dramatically.

I specialize in supporting young adults (18-30s) who are navigating life's stressors. The early adult years can be the most challenging of one’s life. We find ourselves adjusting to countless new experiences; navigating relationships, loneliness, school/careers, self-esteem/body image, and finding motivation and direction. I recognize that everyone needs support and act as a companion and a mentor. As a multiracial woman in the US, I recognize the strong desire and need to find your true identity and sense of belonging. Although I support folks from diverse backgrounds, I have specialized experience supporting the LGBTQ+ community.

Everyone has their own stories and perspectives. Regardless of the issue, reclaiming a healthy life when feeling subjugated and repressed by the existing problems is difficult. Sometimes these problems manifest through anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, and many more. These conditions can easily make you feel you don't have a place or a say in this world. Feeling dignified and validated is also challenging when you can't find a true voice. Therapy provides the time and space for healing, assisting you in regaining and empowering the inner strengths to overcome these difficulties.

Successful therapy should give you widened perspectives, changed beliefs, altered values, and optimal behaviors. I have 40 years of professional experience on three different continents, a Ph.D. in Western empirical clinical psychology, a doctoral dissertation on Asian meditative therapies and academic training in ancient Greek schools of philosophy. With a perspective detached from contemporary social and therapeutic fads I believe I can guide you with meticulous care to a more enriching life.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
