Exploring early attachment relationships, as well as important relationships of the present, is useful for gaining a deeper sense of how our beliefs & interpersonal style were first developed & now currently affecting us overall.
Connecting with people in positive, satisfying ways is essential for our emotional health. I make a priority of creating a genuine and supportive relational experience in the therapy setting so that my clients can comfortably process and heal what hurts, while also learning useful skills to manage emotions and behaviors in healthier, more effective ways. I have tools that help my clients untangle any resistance to making changes and to feel more motivated, encouraged and valued. I am very experienced at treating anxiety/panic, OCD, relational struggles, grief, trauma, life transitions and issues special to women and new parents.

At some point we all struggle to adjustment to life's changes; it's normal to feel stuck and I believe people have what it takes to adjust. For the past 20 years, I have been working with children and teens who are struggling to balance the demands of school and their social life. I integrate parents in my work as much as possible. I also work with adults and Couples often come to me for help in distress and are confused about how or why their relationship has derailed. I am dedicated to helping people build stronger; more intimate relationships and I use several modalities when attempting to help couples in distress.

You take on the feelings of others and are often overwhelmed by what’s going on around you. You may be fed up with constantly wondering if you’re doing enough or feeling like you have to make everyone around you happy all the time. You might not even remember a time things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure, you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to stop the old stories, old relationships, old blocks and to step into a new way of being. You’re ready to go beyond talk therapy and integrate more spirituality into your healing. Most of all, you’re ready to dive in and live an intuitive life where you feel fulfilled.

You're trying to better your life, but others in your life just aren't. Maybe someone you love struggles with addiction and being around them can get tense and uncomfortable? Can't they see that there is more to life than senseless drama, dysfunctional relationships or addiction?" We don't have control over other people, but we do have control over what we allow & don't allow in our lives. You're ready for change, willing to put in the work & I'm here for it all.

The interface between contemporary psychology and the wisdom of contemplative practice spirituality is central to my work with individuals and couples and to my general approach to therapy. With the use of MINDFULNESS based therapy and a non-judgmental and non-pathological approach I create a healing and supportive environment were growth and transformation can take place through our in depth process of exploration. It’s early in the morning, and your eyes pop open to the sound of a blaring alarm clock. Groaning, you hit the snooze button as you start dreading the grueling day ahead. Lying in bed, you scroll through your phone, looking for the motivation to get you through this day. Instead, you're met with images of women with perfect bodies and perfect lives. You can’t help but compare yourself to them. A voice says, “that’ll never be you; it can't be.” You try to dismiss it, but the voice in your head gets louder. You can’t shake the feeling that you don’t deserve happiness, success or love in your life. You feel lost and defeated.

Therapy with me will have you leaving my office with tangible ways, for you or you and your loved ones, to facilitate changes in what you want in your life from the very first session. I will challenge you hard but with compassion. I enjoy helping people develop an enthusiasm for the process of self-discovery and healing. I make authentic contact with people help them cultivate a taste for their own Truths while making space to grieve the loss of old ways or relating to people and the world around them. I see starting therapy is a sign of intelligence.

At the core of many personal issues lie old messages of your sense of worth. Those messages conveyed to you while growing-up that may have minimized your self-esteem. By slowly revisiting the wounded part of yourself, old repetitive behaviors can cease to exist. A new sense of kindness toward yourself will begin to emerge. Allow me to travel with you to discover what is buried deep inside of your soul, exploring what keeps you from becoming all that you want to be. I hold a container of acceptance in the therapy room, while searching for its meaning and resolution.

We all come with different stories, identities, backgrounds, cultures, and representations of our experiences which make up who we are and how we relate to the people and world around us. Therapy is an opportunity to examine, understand, and process these parts in order to find our place in the world, establish healthy relationships, and feel a sense of joy and satisfaction in life. Whether you're contending with the echoes of childhood trauma, navigating the many realms and layers of identity, or grappling with the weight of anxiety and depression, my therapeutic space is crafted to honor your individuality.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
